Stay-at-home, quarentine, social distancing… all words that don’t fit well with group running activites. But did you know that you can actually do virtual runs? I’ve now tried three and it’s honestly kind of fun. Especially in light of the current world.
What on earth is virtual running?
According to Virtual Run Events-“A virtual race is a race that can be run (or walked) from any location you choose. You can run, jog, or walk on the road, on the trail, on the treadmill, at the gym or on the track (or even at another race). You get to run your own race, at your own pace, and time it yourself. Running and walking on your own, or with friends! And your medal will be shipped directly to you. Complete a virtual 5Ks, 10K, half marathon and more!”
To be honest, at first I thought the idea of an online race was kind of silly. After all, I can just go outside and take a jog. But after trying some other activites that I had deemed”silly” and “nerdy” (such as online board games and diamond painting via zoom with my friends), I decided to bite the bullet and give virtual running a try. I decided on a 5K run-which is honestly a lot for me I found the run through Virtual Run Events and ended up doing all of my running with my dog on trails around my area that are open and vacant. It ended up being a really great experience that left me feeling a little bit more included in a community and a little bit healthier.
I know things are getting somewhat back to normal, but I think this is still a great time to give virtual running a try. You can check out Virtual Run Events and join a run that looks fun to you! I highly recommend it!
